Philippe Weiss Quoted in HR Daily Advisor “Quality of Training - and Trainer - Will be Questioned in Court”

Philippe Weiss was quoted in the June 14, 2010 HR Daily Advisor article, “Quality of Training - and Trainer - Will be Questioned in Court.” The article discussed the need for proper employee training to defend against lawsuits and how the courts and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) expect the trainers to have qualified backgrounds.

According to the article, courts and opposing attorneys will explore such things as: the content of the training course, how much money is spent on training, and the trainer’s background and competency. Philippe noted that the courts want to see that the presentations are highly interactive and engaging in addition to being built around the organization’s particular policies and practices. He explained that simply showing a video or lecturing the employees is not enough. The training should be interactive and include role-plays, hypothetical scenarios and exercises that allow participants to work together and on their own to come to an answer. Philippe also offered suggestions for trainers, such as using humor to deal with difficult issues without making light of the situation.
